Valparaiso came up short on Sunday morning in a Horizon League match against Green Bay, falling 7-0 to the Phoenix at the Homewood-Flossmoor Racquet Club in Flossmoor, Ill.
Green Bay (1-7, 1-2 Horizon) opened the match with three victories in doubles action. Jennifer Bradfield and Emily Lawent topped Kristin Zakiewicz (Bristol, Ind./Northridge H.S.) and Katie Bilyeu (Terre Haute, Ind./South Vigo H.S.) 8-5 at number one while Rebecca Nelson and Morgan Weuve defeated Jackie O’Reilly (Green Bay, Wis./DePere H.S.) and Stephanie York (Elkhart, Ind./Jimtown H.S.) 8-1 at the second spot. Maria Anderson and Julia Kedrzyski were 8-1 winners over Brittany O’Reilly (Green Bay, Wis./Southwest H.S.) and Aubree Zdanovec (Appleton, Wis./East H.S.) at the third spot.
In singles action, Zakiewicz forced a match tie-break at the third spot against Weuve before falling 6-4, 4-6, 10-2. At the top of the order, Lawent was a 6-0, 6-0 victor over Brittany O’Reilly while Bradfield defeated Jackie O’Reilly 6-2, 6-1 at number two. York fell 6-3, 6-1 at the fourth spot against Anderson while Bilyeu fell 6-2, 6-3 against Nelson at fifth singles. Zdanovec fell against Kedrzyski 6-0, 6-0 at the sixth spot.
Valparaiso (0-9, 0-2) will return to action next Saturday, hosting Detroit. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
