For the third time in as many seasons, junior libero Taylor Root (Jenison, Mich./Jenison) has been selected to represent Valparaiso on the All-Tournament Team at the Horizon League Championship.

Root totaled 44 digs over the Crusaders’ two matches at the league tournament, averaging an impressive 7.33 digs/set.  The junior posted 23 digs in Valpo’s sweep of UIC in Friday’s quarterfinal, and then tallied 21 digs as the Crusaders fell to eventual league champion Milwaukee in Saturday’s semifinal match.  Root also was perfect on serve receive, handling all 38 serves her way without committing a reception error.

Root also surpassed a milestone on Saturday, becoming just the second player in Crusader volleyball history to tally 2,000 career digs.  The junior ended the tournament with 662 digs this season, just 14 shy of third place on Valpo’s all-time single season chart.
