Men’s Golf Concludes Day One at Ball State
Josh Kalita led Valpo on day one.

Valparaiso’s men’s golf team is in 14th place after the opening day of competition at the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational held at Delaware Country Club in Muncie, Ind.

The Crusaders shot rounds of 395 and 382 on day one for a 36-hole total of 777, four strokes behind SIU Edwardsville.  Louisville, which shot 717, holds a 21 stroke advantage over tournament host Ball State.

Josh Kalita (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton H.S.) leads the way for Valpo after two rounds after firing 80 and 72 for a 152 total on the 6,438-yard, par-70 course.  Kalita has a one shot advantage over Brad Winters (Elgin, Ill./Saint Edward H.S.).  Winters posted rounds of 79 and 74.

Thomas Wettstein (Neenah, Wis./Xavier H.S.) carded rounds of 81 and 75 to post 156 while Kyle Henning (Brookfield, Wis./East H.S.) shot 76 and 82 to finish at 158.  Austin Gaugert (Lake Geneva, Wis./Badger H.S.) added rounds of 79 and 81 and enters the final round at 160 while Andy Webb (Bedford, Ind./North Lawrence H.S.) shot 84 and 80 for a 164 total.

Louisville’s Chris Malec leads the way at two-under par 138 (70-68).

Valparaiso will return to the course on Sunday morning for the final 18 holes.  The shotgun start begins at 8 a.m. CDT.
