Valpo’s Henning Ties for Fourth at Wisconsin State Amateur
Kyle Henning posted a top-five finish at the Wisconsin State Amateur.

Valparaiso University golfer Kyle Henning (Brookfield, Wis./East H.S.) finished in a tie for fourth place at the 111th Wisconsin State Amateur Championship played July 16-19 at the Club at Strawberry Creek in Kenosha, Wis.

Henning finished with a three-under par 285 total (72-70-66-77) to finish three shots behind the champion.  The Crusader junior entered the final round with a one stroke lead after carding a six-under par 66 in round three.  He had a stretch of 24 holes, ending round two and encompassing all of round three, in which he made 11 birdies.

“I’m so proud of the way that Kyle played in such a premier event,” Valpo head coach Dave Gring stated.  “He showed that he is one of the top players in the entire state of Wisconsin.  Kyle has played well all summer and hopefully it will carry over into the fall season for us.”

Henning made 17 total birdies on the week, and took advantage of the par fives, shooting 10-under par on them for the four rounds, including an eagle three on his second hole of the tournament.
