Valparaiso sophomore Jessica Richardson (Columbus, Ind./North) posted the fourth-fastest 5K time in Crusader history on Friday afternoon as the Valpo women ran to a 15th-place finish in the Gold Race of the Notre Dame Invitational in Notre Dame, Ind.

The Crusaders totaled 364 points for their 15th-place finish on Friday. TCU won the team championship with 62 points and was led by individual champion Agnes Kemboi.

Richardson demolished her previous collegiate 5K best by 30 seconds on Friday, covering Notre Dame's course in 17:51, behind just Laura Rolf, Collette Liss (both All-Americans) and Danielle Nunnelly in the Crusader annals. Richardson's time on Friday afternoon was good for a seventh-place finish, as she earned a top-ten placement for the third time in as many races this year.

Freshman Dezzarae Arce (Orland Park, Ill./Victor J. Andrew) crossed the line as the second-fastest Crusader, placing 82nd with a time of 19:45. Freshman Hannah Schilling (Fraser, Mich./Lutheran North) and junior Grace Shemwell (Clinton, Iowa/Clinton) finished nearly back-to-back with respective times of 20:09 and 20:14, ending the race in 92nd and 94th position. Senior Haley Kerlin (Rensselaer, Ind./Rensselaer) rounded out Valpo's top-five runners with a 106th-place finish, crossing the line in 20:57.

Valparaiso returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 13 at the Evansville Invitational in Evansville, Ind. The meet is slated for an 11 a.m. CDT start.
