The Valparaiso women’s tennis team continued its 2012 fall campaign this weekend at the DePaul/Lewis Invitational, played in Romeoville, Ill.

Junior Aubree Zdanovec (Appleton, Wis./East) picked up a win in flight E of singles action, downing Northern Illinois’ Sarah Boyd by a 6-2, 6-4 score.  Zdanovec dropped her other two matches in the flight to players from Lewis.  Sophomore Lauren Kammerer (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) took Lewis’ Kendra Mills to a third set in the same flight before falling 2-6, 6-3, 11-9 in one of her three singles matches on the weekend.

In the top singles flight, sophomore Kaitlyn Hamel (Lakewood, Colo./Green Mountain) pushed Northern Illinois’ Haley Dekkinga in both sets before losing 7-5, 6-4 in one of her three matches.  Flight B saw sophomore Michele Fredlake (South Bend, Ind./Saint Joseph’s) and junior Kristin Zakiewicz (Bristol, Ind./Northridge) both drop a pair of matches, while sophomore Megan Barthels (Grand Rapids, Mich./Catholic Central) lost three matches in Flight C of singles.

Freshman Ashley Pabey (East Chicago, Ind./Central) and sophomore Angelina Goheen (Aurora, Ill./Rosary) both suffered two losses in Flight D of singles play.  In Flight A of doubles, Barthels and Hamel teamed up, as well as Fredlake and Zakiewicz, but neither team could come up with a win in four matches apiece.  Flight B of doubles saw Goheen and Zdanovec drop three matches, while Kammerer and Pabey lost a pair of contests.

Valparaiso concludes its fall season on Monday, Oct. 22 in a dual match at Wayne State.
