The Valparaiso men's golf team ended round one of the John Dallio Memorial in Lemont, Ill. in a tie for fifth place on Saturday.

The Crusaders shot a 311 in the opening round to tie for fifth, while Marquette and Northern Iowa share the first-round lead at 306. Saturday's action got off to a delayed start due to frost, and darkness fell before most of the 15 participating schools could finish round two.

Junior Kyle Henning (Brookfield, Wis./East) and sophomore Joe Harris (Washington, Iowa/Washington) tied for Valpo's low round in the opener, as both posted scores of 76. Fifth-year senior Brad Winters (Elgin, Ill./Saint Edward [Dayton]) shot a 78, while senior Austin Gaugert (Lake Geneva, Wis./Badger) registered an 81 and sophomore Eric Winters (Elgin, Ill./Saint Edward) shot an 85.

The two-day event will conclude on Sunday, as round two resumes at 9 a.m. and the third and final round is played immediately following the conclusion of round two.
