Valparaiso sophomore Shaquira Scott (Wilmette, Ill./Loyola Academy) has been named the first Horizon League women’s basketball Player of the Week of the 2012-2013 season after helping to lead the Crusaders to a season-opening win over Indiana last Friday.

Scott, who played in just ten games as a freshman before suffering a season-ending injury, made an immediate impact in her first game back.  The sophomore paced the Crusaders with 17 points in the win over the Hoosiers, Valpo’s first over a Big Ten foe since December of 2008.  Scott hit 7-of-12 from the floor, including a 3-pointer, and also connected on both of her free throw attempts as the Crusaders led start to finish in the Valpo head coaching debut of Tracey Dorow.

Scott and the rest of the Crusaders return to the court Wednesday night at the ARC, facing Purdue Calumet at 7:05 p.m.
