Valparaiso senior forward Kevin Van Wijk (Hoofddorp, Netherlands/Katholieke Scholengemeenschap Hoofddorp) has been named the Horizon League Player of the Week after leading the Crusaders to a pair of wins last week, including a career-best performance at Detroit.

Van Wijk was nearly perfect from the floor in the come-from-behind win over the Titans, hitting 13 of his 15 field goal attempts en route to a career-high 31 points. The senior did not miss a shot from the floor in the second half, going 8-of-8, and scored four points in the final 90 seconds as the Crusaders completed their comeback.

Then on Saturday against Wright State, Van Wijk helped lift the Crusaders into first place in the Horizon League with his typical efficient performance. The senior scored 14 first half points to help keep Valpo within striking distance, and then scored a pair of late baskets as the Crusaders rallied from a late deficit yet again. Van Wijk closed the night 6-of-9 from the floor and 6-of-8 from the foul line, tying for team-high honors with 18 points. He also grabbed seven rebounds and set a new career best with four assists.

On the week, Van Wijk averaged 24.5 points per game on 79.2% (19-of-24) shooting from the floor. He paces the league in field goal percentage both overall (.628) and in league-only play (.729), and also now qualifies for the Crusaders' career field goal percentage chart, which he tops at .603.
