Crusaders Open Spring Trip with Win over Robert Morris
Junior Eric Honert won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles against Robert Morris Saturday in Kissimmee, Florida

The Valparaiso men's tennis team kicked off their Kissimmee, Florida trip with a 5-2 win over Robert Morris.

Eric Honert won his match handily at No. 1 singles 6-3, 6-1 over Matheus Neves Ferreira.  Chris Baum and Angus Thomson battled in a tight three-set match at No. 2 before Thomson outlasted the fifth-year senior 5-7, 7-6 (7-4), 12-10.

Freshmen Michael Savaglio and Michael Baiocchi both won at No. 3 and 4 singles 6-1, 6-2, and 6-4, 6-2 respectively.

Robert Morris clinched its second and final point of the match at No. 5 singles when Andre Coiro beat Lucas Waak 6-0, 7-6 (7-2).  

Freshman Brian Hickey won his match at No. 6 singles 6-4, 2-6, 10-4.

In doubles action, Valpo swept the three matches.  Honert and Waak took their match at No. 1 8-3.  

Savaglio and Baiocchi were triumphant at No. 3 doubles by the same 8-3 score.  Baum and freshman Danny Oakes won a close 8-6 contest over Neves Ferreira and Tarun Kishan.

With the win, Valpo improves its record to 6-5.  The Crusaders return to the court Monday against Quinnipiac at 1:00 Eastern/12:00 Central.
