For the fourth straight year, the Valparaiso men's basketball team was represented on the All-League First Team as the Horizon League announced its postseason awards, as senior guard Lavonte Dority (Chicago, Ill./Foreman [USF]) earned First Team All-League honors this season. In addition, freshman forward Alec Peters (Washington, Ill./Washington) and freshman guard Lexus Williams (Chicago, Ill./Marist) both earned spots on the league's All-Freshman Team.
Dority earned First Team All-League accolades one season after he was named the league's Sixth Man of the Year. This year, the senior stepped up into the leadership role for the Crusaders, averaging a team-best 16.2 points per game, good for fifth in the league. He also ranks among the league's top-five in free throw percentage, three-point percentage and three-pointers made. Dority scored in double figures 26 times this year and led Valpo on 16 occasions. Twice he broke the 30-point barrier, making him one of just six Crusaders in the last two decades to accomplish that in a career.
Peters earned a spot on the All-Freshman Team following one of the best seasons by a Crusader rookie in recent history. The freshman averaged 12.0 points - on 47.5% shooting - and 4.7 rebounds per game this year, hitting at a 37.6% clip from beyond the 3-point line. Starting every game this year, he is on pace to become the first Valpo freshman since the 1998-99 campaign to start each and every contest as a rookie. His scoring average is the best by a Valpo freshman since Lubos Barton (1998-99), while his rebounding average is tops by a freshman since Raitis Grafs (1999-2000).
Williams joined Peters on the All-Freshman Team after averaging 24 minutes per game at the point for the Crusaders as a rookie. He averaged 6.8 points per game and ranked among the league's best in assists (2.5 apg, 11th) and steals (1.1 spg, 12th). Williams scored in double figures on eight occasions, including a career-high 22 points to lead Valpo in its win at Detroit. He paced the Crusaders in steals 12 times and in assists nine times.
