Valparaiso University placed eight student-athletes over four sports on the Horizon League’s 2015 Winter Academic All-League Teams, as announced today by the league office. Men's indoor track and field had three student-athletes honored, while men's basketball and women's indoor track and field had two apiece and men's swimming had one as well.
Freshman Dani Gomez Barrientos set school records in the 100 yard butterfly and 200 yard freestyle and was on the 200 yard freestyle relay that broke the program record to lead Valpo on the third day of the Horizon League Championships.
Senior Flavia Segatto bettered her school record in the women's 500 yard freestyle and the women's 400 yard medley relay team also set the school record at the Horizon League Championships on Thursday.
The Valpo swimming teams set three records on Wednesday on day one of the Horizon League Championships. Dani Gomez Barrientos set the mark in the 1000 yard freestyle, while the men's 200 yard freestyle relay and 200 yard medley relay also set the top times.
The Valpo swim team set five school records today on day two of the Calvin Winter Invitational. Gonzalo Casto Diaz, Fred Jenny, and Max Penn all set school records individually and on the 400 yard medley relay. Flavia Segatto tied her school record in the women's 200 yard butterfly.
The swimming and diving teams returned to the pool on Thursday in the Calvin Winter Invitational. The 800 yard freestyle of Dani Gomez Barrientos, Flavia Segatto, Makenna Cannon and Paiton Krebs set the fastest time in Crusader history with a 7:45.26 as they finished third.
Valpo traveled to Cleveland State Saturday afternoon for a dual meet. The women also took on Youngstown State. Gonazlo Castro Diaz and Dani Gomez Barrientos led the way with several top-ten all-time Crusader times.
