Best of Valpo Athletics 2014-2015: Final Four Unveiled!


The results are in from the quarterfinal round of voting for the Best of Valpo Athletics 2014-15 bracket, and with nearly 700 votes, Crusader fans have spoken. The final four includes two Horizon League title wins, a program first and an entry into the NCAA record books. Voting is open now as the field gets narrowed down to just two!


119 Valparaiso Student-Athletes Named to HL Academic Honor Roll


Valparaiso student-athletes continue to excel in the classroom, as 119 Crusaders earned a spot on the Horizon League Spring 2015 Academic Honor Roll, as released today by the league office.


15 Crusaders Earn Spring Academic All-League Honors


15 Valparaiso student-athletes earned spots on the Horizon League Spring Academic All-League teams, as announced by the league office this morning. Men’s outdoor track and field had five athletes honored, while baseball, men’s golf and women’s outdoor track and field each had three selections to go with one from men’s tennis.

Valpo Finishes Fourth in McCafferty Trophy Race


The Valparaiso University athletic department posted its highest finish in the Horizon League’s McCafferty Trophy standings since the Crusaders joined the league in 2007, placing fourth as the league announced the final 2014-15 standings on Thursday. Valpo finished third in the race for the men’s sports title as well.


Four Valparaiso Athletic Programs Earn NCAA Recognition

Smith, Young Promoted to Associate ADs


Director of Athletics Mark LaBarbera announced the promotions of Kim Smith and Traci Young to Associate Directors of Athletics on Monday morning. Smith will inherit the role of Associate Director of Athletics for Compliance in addition to serving as the department's Senior Woman Administrator (SWA). Young accepts a promotion to Associate Director of Athletics for Life Skills while retaining her position as head women's tennis coach.

Second Annual Athletics Alumni Challenge a Success


The 2015 Athletics Alumni Challenge, held in conjunction with the University-wide Day of Giving, Proud to Be Valpo, was a huge success. This year’s challenge topped last year’s in every way. 339 former Valpo student-athletes, representing every sport that the University sponsors, gave back. This includes 69 former student-athletes who made gifts for the first time. In total, over $56,000 was raised for Valpo Athletics, with nine different teams receiving more than $1,000 in gifts. The total amount received is a 36% increase from last year’s Athletics Alumni Challenge.


Palace, Peters Named Athletes of the Month


Valparaiso University sophomore baseball player Nate Palace (Westlake Village, Calif./Oaks Christian) and junior track and field athlete Sarah Peters (LaGrange, Ill./Lyons Township) have been named the athletic department’s Student-Athletes of the Month for March.


Eight Crusaders Earn Winter Academic All-League Accolades


Valparaiso University placed eight student-athletes over four sports on the Horizon League’s 2015 Winter Academic All-League Teams, as announced today by the league office. Men's indoor track and field had three student-athletes honored, while men's basketball and women's indoor track and field had two apiece and men's swimming had one as well.

Valparaiso University awarded 132 student-athletes with Presidential Academic Honors while also handing out the Laurel Award at the 24th Annual Student-Athletes Academic Honors Banquet held on Sunday evening in the Christopher Center.
