115 Crusaders Named to HL Spring Academic Honor Roll


Valparaiso student-athletes continue to excel in the classroom, as 115 Crusaders earned a spot on the Horizon League Spring 2016 Academic Honor Roll, as released today by the league office. Valpo's 115 representatives ranked second in the ten-member league.


Best of Valpo Athletics 2015-2016: The Final Two


One was the culmination of a three-year resurgence that saw the Crusader men’s tennis team go from winless in the Horizon League to the top of the mountain. The other was one of the most remarkable league tournament runs you’ll ever see, as the Crusader softball team put together an incredible four-day performance at the Horizon League Championship. Both journeys culminated with teams raising Horizon League title trophies and advancing to the NCAA Tournament, and with over 800 votes cast in the semifinals, they are your final two – but only one can claim to be the Best of Valpo Athletics in 2015-2016. Which will it be?


Best of Valpo Athletics 2015-2016: Final Four Unveiled!


The results are in from the quarterfinal round of voting for the Best of Valpo Athletics 2015-2016 bracket, and the Crusader fans have spoken. The final four which will face off include two Horizon League title wins, a deep postseason run and an individual effort that ranks among the top single-game performances in program history.


13 Crusaders Earn Spring Academic All-League Honors


13 Valparaiso University student-athletes earned spots on the Horizon League Spring Academic All-League teams, as announced by the league office today. The men’s track and field team had four honorees from the outdoor season, while the women’s squad had three honorees. Three baseball players earned Academic All-League accolades, while softball, men’s golf and men’s tennis each had one recipient apiece.


17 Valpo Student-Athletes Receive Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Award


17 Valparaiso University student-athletes received the Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Awards as selected by Diverse: Issues in Higher Education magazine. The award recognizes minority student-athletes who have made achieving both academically and athletically a winning combination.

Klos Moving On From Athletics After Decade of Service

Valpo Seeks Volunteers For Horizon League Track and Field Championships


Valparaiso University will be hosting the 2016 Horizon League Outdoor Track and Field Championships from Friday-Sunday, May 6-8 on campus at the Warren G. Hoger Track and the Eastgate Track and Field Complex. The Department of Athletics is seeking volunteers to assist with the operations of this event. Four Valparaiso Athletic Programs Earn NCAA Recognition


Four athletic teams from Valparaiso University have received the NCAA Public Recognition Award for outstanding academic performance. The four awards are tied for the most by any Horizon League institution.

Nominations Being Accepted for Valparaiso Athletics Hall of Fame


Nominations are open through Tuesday, October 27 to be included in the pool of candidates for the Valparaiso University Hall of Fame Class of 2016. Former student-athletes whose last season of competition was 2009-10 or earlier are eligible to be nominated.


LaBarbera Announces Staffing Changes


Valparaiso University director of athletics Mark LaBarbera announced a pair of staffing changes within the athletic department Wednesday. Traci Young will take over as associate director of athletics for student services while Tammy Cecchini has been promoted to women's tennis head coach.


Crusaders Raising Money as Part of Breast Cancer Awareness Activities


The Valparaiso University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will be raising money for the American Cancer Society at home events throughout the next month as part of its Breast Cancer Awareness campaign.

Women’s Soccer Claims Best of Valpo Athletics 2014-15 Victory


In a bracket which saw nearly 3,000 total votes cast over four rounds of voting, 16 of the top moments and achievements over the last year have been pared down to just one, as the women’s soccer team’s Horizon League Championship victory over Detroit has been tabbed the Best of Valpo Athletics for the 2014-2015 season.
