113 Valpo Student-Athletes Named to Horizon League Academic Honor Roll


Valparaiso University student-athletes continue to excel in the classroom, as 113 Crusaders earned a spot on the Horizon League Spring 2017 Academic Honor Roll, as released today by the league office.

Endowed Scholarship Established for Valpo Women Student-Athletes


Women student-athletes at Valparaiso University will benefit from an endowed scholarship fund established by Carolyn Schlie ’71 Femovich and Bob Femovich. They have committed $600,000 to create the Carolyn Schlie Femovich and Robert M. Femovich Endowed Scholarship Fund.

Valparaiso University to Join Summit League in Men’s Tennis, Men’s Swimming


Director of Athletics Mark LaBarbera has announced that Valparaiso University has accepted an invitation to join the Summit League as an affiliate member in men’s tennis and men’s swimming beginning with the 2017-2018 academic and athletic year. Valparaiso was a founding member of the Summit League, then known as the Mid-Continent Conference, in 1982 and competed in the conference until 2007.

Valparaiso University to Join Missouri Valley Conference


Valparaiso University president Mark A. Heckler, Ph.D., announced today that the University has accepted an invitation to join the Missouri Valley Conference on July 1, 2017. The Crusaders will begin competing for MVC championships in the 2017–2018 academic year.

10 Valpo Student-Athletes Receive Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Award


10 Valparaiso University student-athletes received the Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Awards as selected by Diverse: Issues in Higher Education magazine. The award recognizes minority student-athletes who have made achieving both academically and athletically a winning combination.

Seibert Named 2017 IHSAA Outstanding Gymnastics Official


Valparaiso University assistant director of athletics and director of recreational sports Rin Seibert has been named the recipient of the 2017 Interscholastic Athletic Official Award for excellence in the sport of gymnastics.

2017 Hall of Fame Class Inducted Saturday


Last Saturday was a special day for three former Crusaders, as Lubos Barton ’02, Rod Moore ’68, ATC, LAT, and Angie Porché ’10 Rundh were inducted as the 20th class into the Valparaiso University Athletics Hall of Fame. The full induction ceremony can be viewed on YouTube.

Three individuals will be inducted into the Valparaiso University Athletics Hall of Fame on Saturday, Feb. 11. Lubos Barton ’02, Rod Moore ’68, ATC, LAT, and Angie Porché ’10 Rundh comprise the 20th class in Hall of Fame history.

Weiler Joins Athletic Staff; Anthony Earns Promotion


Valparaiso University Director of Athletics Mark LaBarbera announced today Erik Weiler has been hired as associate director of athletics for facilities. In addition, LaBarbera announced Stephen Anthony has been promoted to senior associate director of athletics for finance and administration.

Nominations Being Accepted for Valparaiso Athletics Hall of Fame


Nominations are open through Tuesday, October 11 to be included in the pool of candidates for the Valparaiso University Hall of Fame Class of 2017. Former student-athletes whose last season of competition was 2010-11 or earlier are eligible to be nominated.

Twedt Promoted to Head Athletic Trainer, Creighton Joins Staff


Valparaiso University director of athletics Mark LaBarbera announced today that Nathan Twedt has been promoted to the position of head athletic trainer. In addition, Zachary Creighton has joined the athletic training staff as an assistant athletic trainer.

Rod Moore Steps Down as Head Athletic Trainer


Roderick Moore ’68, ATC, LAT, will step down as the head athletic trainer for the Valparaiso University athletic department on Sept. 1 after nearly 50 years in the role.

Yates Named Associate A.D. for Event Management


Valparaiso University Director of Athletics Mark LaBarbera announced today that Dr. Shannon Yates has been hired as the Associate Director of Athletics for Event Management. Yates arrives at Valpo with 20 years of experience working within intercollegiate athletics under her belt.

Valparaiso Athletics Signs New Five-Year Contract With Nike


The partnership between the Valparaiso University athletic department and Nike will continue through at least the 2020-21 school year, as the two entities announced today that they had reached an agreement to make Nike the official provider of Crusader uniforms and apparel for the next five years.

Softball Claims Best of Valpo Athletics 2015-16 Victory


Over four rounds of voting, 16 of the top moments and achievements from the past year have been whittled down to just one. With over 1,000 votes cast in the final round, the softball team's run to the Horizon League Championship has been crowned the Best of Valpo Athletics for the 2015-2016 season!
