Keck Wins State Farm MVC Good Neighbor Award


Missouri Valley Conference Commissioner Doug Elgin has named 10 student-athletes State Farm MVC Good Neighbor Award recipients for the 2017 fall season. Valparaiso University men’s soccer senior Jacob Keck was among those honored as the conference announced the winners on Thursday.

Men’s Soccer Season Comes to Close at MVC Tournament


The Valparaiso University men’s soccer team saw its season come to an end on Tuesday afternoon in Peoria, Ill. as Drake advanced by topping the Crusaders 4-2 in Missouri Valley Conference Tournament action. The match was scoreless at halftime, before all six goals were scored in the final 45 minutes. Rafael Mentzingen notched the first goal of the match, a highlight-reel effort that gave the Crusaders a temporary edge.

Men’s Soccer Ready for First Missouri Valley Conference Tournament


The Valparaiso University men’s soccer team will begin its first Missouri Valley Conference Tournament on Tuesday. The sixth-seeded Crusaders face off with seventh-seeded Drake to begin the event, which features all seven Valley teams competing for an automatic spot in the NCAA Tournament. This year’s tournament is being hosted by Bradley in Peoria, Ill. If Valpo wins on Tuesday, it will play Bradley on Wednesday, with the winner of that match advancing to Friday’s semifinal against Central Arkansas.

Men’s Soccer Finishes Regular Season at Brown Field


The Valparaiso University men’s soccer team concluded its regular season on Saturday afternoon against Missouri Valley Conference foe Bradley. The Crusaders (8-8-1, 3-5-0 MVC) fell to the Braves (10-7-2, 4-3-1) 1-0 at Brown Field. At halftime of the match, head coach Mike Avery and the Crusader program honored the team’s three seniors: Ramone Howell, Jacob Keck and Tunji Osifeso.

Three-Goal Half Lifts Men's Soccer Past Eastern Illinois


The Valparaiso University men’s soccer team faced a 1-0 halftime deficit on Monday night at Brown Field, but the Crusaders exploded for three second half goals to best Eastern Illinois 3-1 in nonconference action. Valpo had the bulk of the match’s quality chances, outdoing the Panthers 8-2 in shots on goal.

The Valparaiso University men’s soccer team went to Macomb, Ill. on Thursday and picked up its sixth road victory of the season, extending its winning streak to three by downing Western Illinois 5-2 behind a hat trick by sophomore Adan Garcia (Dallas, Texas / Episcopal School of Dallas). After a decade-long gap between hat tricks from 2006-2016, Valpo has now had a player accomplish the feat in consecutive seasons.

Freshman midfielder Jonas Engler couldn’t have dreamed of a much better situation for his first collegiate goal, floating a shot from 32 yards out that found the near corner of the net for a golden goal late in the second overtime.
