Gift From Kempf Estate Leads Hilltop Gym Renovation Project

One of the most historic buildings on the Valparaiso University campus, Hilltop Gym is currently in the midst of a two-year, $600,000 project as the space is renovated and improved to serve as a quality practice facility for the Valpo basketball and volleyball programs. The $350,000 lead gift for the project came from the estate of Dale F. Kempf ’62, a longtime faculty member in engineering and physics, and in his honor, the court will be named Kempf Court at Hilltop Gym. The gift supports Forever Valpo: The Campaign for Our Future.

Alumni Challenges Part of Day of Giving

The Athletics Alumni Challenge is back as part of Valparaiso University’s fifth annual Day of Giving, Proud to be Valpo. Three challenge grants of $5,000 each are in play this year for the teams, or team, whose alumni win in separate alumni participation challenges.

Valparaiso University awarded 141 student-athletes with Presidential Academic Honors while also handing out the Laurel Award at the 27th Annual Student-Athletes Academic Honors Banquet held on Sunday evening.

Hall of Fame Banquet Registration Closes Friday

The Valparaiso University Athletics Hall of Fame Induction Banquet is fast approaching, as the 2018 Hall of Fame class - Tom Byrne, Amy (Cavanaugh) Cramer, Natalie Cortese and the 1923-24 men's basketball team - will be inducted on Saturday, Feb. 17.

A Quarter Century Celebration

Valparaiso University women’s basketball coach Tracey Dorow was a player at Illinois State University when women’s athletics were incorporated into the Missouri Valley Conference in 1992, after women previously competed under the Gateway Conference banner from 1982–1992. Now, 25 years after her first season as an MVC student-athlete, Coach Dorow finds herself in her first season as a coach in The Valley during the anniversary season after Valpo gained full-fledged membership on July 1.

Valparaiso Athletics Announces Hall of Fame Class of 2018

Three individuals and one team will be inducted into the Valparaiso University Athletics Hall of Fame on Saturday, Feb. 17. Amy Cavanaugh ’00 Cramer, Tom Byrne ’03, Natalie Cortese ’12 and the 1923-1924 men’s basketball team comprise the 21st class in Hall of Fame history.

Valpo Athletics to Begin Streaming to The Valley on ESPN3 This Weekend


The Valparaiso University athletic department will be streaming live on The Valley on ESPN3 for the first time this weekend following the completed build of the brand-new production control room. The first Valpo production on The Valley on ESPN3 comes this evening from the ARC, as the Crusader volleyball team hosts Loyola at 7 p.m.

Nominations Being Accepted For Valparaiso Athletics Hall of Fame


Nominations are open through Monday, October 23 to be included in the pool of candidates for the Valparaiso University Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2018. Former student-athletes whose last season of competition was 2011-12 or earlier are eligible to be nominated.

Valpo Athletics Mourns the Passing of Ken Schreiber


Ken Schreiber, a member of the inaugural Valparaiso University Athletics Hall of Fame class and legendary baseball head coach at LaPorte H.S., passed away Friday afternoon at the age of 83.

Valpo Athletics Bids Farewell to Stephen Anthony


The Valparaiso University athletics department says goodbye today to senior associate director of athletics Stephen Anthony, who has served Valpo student-athletes for nearly 20 years as a coach and administrator, as he departs for an administrative role in the athletics department at Michigan State University.

As of midnight on Saturday morning, July 1, Valparaiso University is officially a member of the Missouri Valley Conference and will begin competing for conference titles in the 2017-2018 academic year.
