Valparaiso University’s Zach Rodeghero (New Lenox, Ill./Providence Catholic H.S.) remains on the “Wallace Watch” by the College Baseball Foundation.  The “Wallace Watch” narrowed the field to 64 candidates aiming for the 2008 Brooks Wallace College Player of the Year Award.  The three Wallace Award finalists will be announced following NCAA Super Regional play.

            Rodeghero finished the season hitting .418, becoming the first Crusader since Tom Delattre in 1981 to hit .400 in a season.  He set the single season record at Valpo for hits (92), tied the doubles mark (21), and was two runs (53) shy of the school mark.

            The fifth-year senior won the Horizon League batting title and led the league in hits.  Rodeghero was second in the conference in on base percentage (.490), third in runs batted in (54), fourth in slugging percentage (.577) and doubles and walks (27), and fifth in runs scored.

            Rodeghero finished his career at Valpo with a .369 batting average.
