Kevin Wild’s (Brown Deer, Wis./Brown Deer H.S.) has earned Horizon League Pitcher of the Week honors after tossing nine-plus innings of one-hit baseball last Saturday against Milwaukee, helping the Crusaders to a weekend sweep of the Panthers.

The senior right-hander carried a no-hitter into the 10th inning in game two of the doubleheader before allowing a lead-off double that was nearly caught down the right field foul line.  Wild left the game following the hit and wound up with a no decision as the Crusaders defeated the Panthers 1-0 in 10 innings.  He struck out six and walked just four.

On the season Wild is 1-0 with a 3.89 earned run average.  In 37.0 innings pitched opponents are batting just .266 against him and he has registered 23 strikeouts.

Wild is the third different Crusader to be honored by the Horizon League already this season.  Tyler Deetjen (Saint Charles, Ill./East H.S.) has earned a pair of Pitcher of the Week accolades while Tanner Vavra (Menomonie, Wis./Menomonie H.S.) recorded a Batter of the Week honor.

Valparaiso (8-14, 4-2 Horizon) will return to action at Emory G. Bauer Field Friday through Sunday hosting Wright State for a three-game series.  Both teams are currently tied along with UIC atop the Horizon League standings, and the series features a rematch of last year’s Horizon League Tournament championship game.  First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. on Friday and 1 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
