After posting a 3-1 record last week to move in a first place tie in the Horizon League standings, the Valparaiso University baseball team was named the College Baseball Insider Central Region Team of the Week.

The Crusaders opened the week with a 7-4 victory at Notre Dame before taking two of three from Wright State to pull even with the Raiders in the conference standings.  Valpo won the opener on Friday 12-11 before falling on Saturday afternoon 4-3.  The Brown and Gold bounced back on Sunday to take the series finale 3-2, handing Wright State its first home series loss since 2010.

CBI selected Oregon as the nation team of the week while Cornell, Florida, and UCLA represented the Northeast, Southeast, and West respectively.   Valpo had earned Honorable Mention team of the week honors last week as well.

Valparaiso (25-21, 17-7 Horizon) finished up its eight-game road trip with a 7-1 record.  The Crusaders now finish the regular season at home with nine straight games beginning this afternoon (Tuesday, May 8) against North Central in a 3 p.m. contest at Emory G. Bauer Field.
