Three Crusaders Earn All-Conference Honors

Valparaiso placed three members of its baseball team on the All Mid-Continent Conference Second Team as the postseason awards were handed out on Wednesday evening.

Kevin Kutansky (Schererville, Ind./Munster H.S.), Kyle Obenauf (Salem, Wis./Westosha Central H.S.), and Josh Piazza (Niles, Ill./Notre Dame H.S.) each earned the honor for the first time.

Kutansky, an outfielder, hit .342 for the Brown and Gold this season with 28 runs batted in. The senior finished with nine doubles, four triples, and three homers, while utilizing his speed on the base paths to swipe seven bases.

Obenauf, a right-handed starting pitcher, finished the season with a team-best 2.60 earned run average. He allowed just 13 earned runs in 45 innings of work, striking out 26 while walking just 11.

Piazza, a catcher, hit .296 this season with nine runs batted in. Behind the plate, he threw out 16 of 29 potential baserunners (55.2%).
