Valparaiso University’s Kyle Wormington (Norman, Okla./North H.S.) has been named the Horizon League’s Pitcher of the Week after helping lift the Crusaders into a first place tie with Wright State on Sunday.

The junior right-hander went seven innings plus on Sunday, picking up the 4-3 victory over the Raiders.  He allowed just two earned runs and nine hits on the afternoon.  He did not walk anyone and struck out four as Valpo took two of three from Wright State to complete a 7-1 road trip.

On the season Wormington is now 4-5 with a 3.39 earned run average, a mark that ranks third in the Horizon League.  He is fourth in the conference in innings pitched (79.2), seventh in strikeouts (44), and ninth in opponents’ batting average (.271).

All three of Valpo’s weekend hurlers have now earned Pitcher of the Week accolades this season, as the Crusaders have picked up six awards in the 12 weeks of action.

Valparaiso (25-21, 17-7 Horizon) returns home on Tuesday afternoon to face North Central in the opener of a nine-game homestand.  First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. at Emory G. Bauer Field.
