Three members of the Valparaiso University baseball program were recognized as the Missouri Valley Conference announced its Scholar-Athlete honors on Tuesday. Junior outfielder Alex Ryan (Lake Mills, Wis. / Lakeside Lutheran) and redshirt sophomore second baseman Nolan Tucker (Cedar Lake, Ind. / Hanover Central) were named to the MVC Scholar-Athlete First Team, while redshirt sophomore outfielder Matt Olive (sports management / Minneapolis, Minn. / Blake School) garnered MVC Scholar-Athlete Honorable Mention.


Cottrill Deals, But Rally Falls Just Shy as Valpo Season Reaches Conclusion

Valparaiso University baseball sophomore Ryan Maka (Oak Forest, Ill. / Oak Forest) was recognized for his stellar season on Monday night as he was named to the All-Missouri Valley Conference First Team, which was announced at the league’s postseason awards banquet in Terre Haute, Ind. Baseball Looks to Continue Best Season Since Joining MVC at League Tournament

After being picked to finish 10th in the preseason poll, the Valparaiso University baseball team has exceeded expectations by earning a spot in the eight-team Missouri Valley Conference Tournament, which will begin on Tuesday as the eighth-seeded Beacons take on fifth-seeded Murray State in the opening round. If Valpo beats Murray State in the first round of the double-elimination tournament, the Beacons will play top-seeded Indiana State on Wednesday at 3 p.m. CT. Valpo Recognizes Seniors Prior to Regular-Season Finale

After clinching a Missouri Valley Conference Tournament berth on Thursday, the Valparaiso University baseball team dropped a game that had no impact on which teams comprise the tournament field on Friday afternoon, falling 20-10 to Illinois State at Emory G. Bauer Field. Senior Jake Skrine (Longmont, Colo. / Mead [Indiana]) ripped two home runs to increase his team-leading total to 11. Bauer Field this weekend as Saturday will be a Valpo Alumni event with former members of the baseball program returning to town as well as senior day with three seniors being recognized as part of a pregame ceremony that will begin at 12:40 p.m.

Starting pitcher Bobby Nowak (Cedar Lake, Ind. / Hanover Central [Kankakee]) did not allow a base hit in his 5 1/3 innings, but he took a tough-luck loss in Sunday’s 5-1 Valparaiso University baseball setback to Belmont in Nashville, Tenn. Valpo held a 1-0 lead in the sixth, but the Bruins rallied to take the rubber match. Based on Sunday’s results around the league, Valpo can lock up a Missouri Valley Conference Tournament berth with one win in next weekend’s three-game series with Illinois State.


Belmont Evens Series, Sets Up Sunday Rubber Match

The Valparaiso University baseball team will play a key rubber match in this weekend’s Missouri Valley Conference series at Belmont on Sunday after the Bruins leveled the set with a 13-3, seven-inning win at E.S. The Valparaiso University baseball program is enjoying its best season since joining the Missouri Valley Conference, but there is still work to be done to secure a place in the 2023 MVC Tournament. The Valparaiso University baseball team will return to Emory G. Bauer Field for a midweek matchup with Purdue Fort Wayne on Tuesday afternoon. This will break up a road-heavy stretch as Valpo played at Evansville this past weekend and will travel to Bradley this coming weekend. Kaleb Krier will make his first appearance in a Valpo uniform on Tuesday as the junior college transfer returns from an injury. Krier played JUCO ball at DMACC, where former Valpo assistant coach Nic Mishler is the head coach.

With two outs and nobody on base in the bottom of the ninth and extra innings seemingly on the horizon, one swing of the bat sent host Evansville to a 4-3 victory over the Valparaiso University baseball team on Easter Sunday at Braun Stadium. Eric Roberts unloaded a walk-off home run, negating Valpo’s late rally as the Beacons had tied the game with single runs in the seventh and eighth innings.

Valpo Baseball Bests Nationally-Ranked Southern Miss in Series Opener

A special start to the Valparaiso University baseball season continued on Friday night with the season’s biggest feat yet as the Beacons knocked off No. 22 Southern Miss 6-1, handing 2022 consensus All-American Tanner Hall the loss in the series opener. This marked the program’s first win over a nationally-ranked opponent since 2018 and the highest ranked opponent that Valpo has defeated since 2013.
