Paul Twenge arrived at Valparaiso University in the fall of 1987 as the head baseball coach of the Crusaders.  He enters the 2006 season with 361 career victories at the helm of the Brown and Gold and has totalled 483 wins all-time including his stint at Anoka-Ramsey Community College.

Just the fourth head coach at Valpo since 1946, Twenge is the all-time winningest coach in Crusader history with regards to victories.  In 2006, he will coach his 1,000th game wearing the Brown and Gold.

The Mid-Continent Coach of the Year in 2001, Twenge has guided the Brown and Gold to nine Mid-Con Tournament appearances since the 1988 season.  He has coached 55 All Mid-Continent Conference Team selections, including 26 First Teamers.  Under his tutelage, he has had a Mid-Con Player of the Year, Mid-Con Pitcher of the Year, and three Mid-Con Newcomers of the Year.

In 1998 and 1999, the Crusaders finished runner-up in the Mid-Continent Conference Tournament under his direction.  His 1988 squad won the Blue Division of the Mid-Con and he guided the 1999 team to a Mid-Con runner-up finish.

In 2001, Twenge guided the program to one of the biggest victories in school history, a victory at #1 ranked Notre Dame.

Since arriving at Valpo, 15 of Twenge’s players have gone on to sign professional baseball contracts.

Before arriving at Valpo, Twenge served as athletic director, head baseball coach, and assistant football coach at Anoka-Ramsey Community College in Minneapolis, Minn.  At Anoka-Ramsey, Twenge compiled an overall coaching record of 122-46-2.  One of his more impressive seasons occurred in 1985 when he coached Anoka-Ramsey to a 27-8-1 record and the Minnesota state championship. The 1985 team also qualified for the Region XIII Tournament of the National Junior College World Series.

Twenge graduated from Mayville State University (North Dakota) in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education.  At Mayville, Twenge played both varsity baseball and football before moving on to South Dakota State University to earn his Master of Science degree in health, physical education and recreation.

Twenge and his wife Dawn have three children, Alyson (born in 1990), Alex (1992) and Axel (1995).
