Chris Malaszewski

Assistant Coach

Chris Maliszewski joined the Valpo baseball staff prior to the 2007 season as an assistant coach, serving as the outfield and catching instructor.  He serves as the recruiting coordinator for the Crusaders.

Maliszewski also helps with the teams camps throughout the year.

Prior to joining the Valparaiso coaching staff, Maliszewski served as the volunteer assistant coach for the University of Iowa in 2005 and 2006.  Working with the pitching staff in 2005, he helped lead the Hawkeyes to one of their most successful seasons in program history, posting a 19-13 mark in the Big Ten.

Maliszewski has also coached in the Northwoods League, a top collegiate wood bat summer league, leading the Mankato Moondog pitching staff in 2004 and serving as the associate head coach of the Madison Mallards in 2005 and 2006.  He was named Coach of the Year with Madison after leading the Mallard pitching staff to the best earned run average in league history.

Throughout his brief coaching career, Maliszewski has helped 10 players sign professional contracts.

Before beginning his coaching career, Maliszewski was a four-year letterwinner for Iowa, posting a 7-10 career record with three saves.  As a sophomore, he earned the win in Iowa’s victory over Illinois, sending the Hawkeyes to the Big Ten Tournament for the first time since 1991.

He graduated from Iowa in 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in health, leisure, and sports studies.  Chris and his wife Tiffany currently reside in Valparaiso.
