Valparaiso, Ind. - Marques Warner and Ryan Wrobleski rushed for two touchdowns each to lead Dayton past Valpo 38-7 on Homecoming. Rob Giancola scored the Crusaders' touchdown - a 16-yard pass from Ryan Doerffler - and needs five points to become the school's all-time leading scorer.

Dayton, the concensus #1-ranked team in all NCAA I-AA Mid-Major polls, led 31-0 at halftime. The Flyers (5-1, 1-0 PFL) turned two Valpo fumbles into 14 points and rushed for 218 yards and four touchdowns in the first 30 minutes.

Following a Valpo fumble on a punt return, Warner scampered into the end zone from four yards to give Dayton a 7-0 lead with 6:08 left in the first quarter. Just over two minutes later, Wrobleski took an end-around handoff and raced 32 yards to extend the Dayton lead to 14-0.

Jason Resch added a 45-yard field goal in the second quarter and Warner rushed for a 10-yard touchdown for a 24-0 lead.

After a second Crusader fumble, Wrobleski scored on another end-around - a 13-yarder - with 3:45 remaining before halftime.

Valpo (3-4, 0-1 PFL) mounted a six-play, 83-yard drive, to score the only points of the third quarter. After Matt Van Daele began the drive with a 15-yard run, Doerffler connected with Giancola for a 53-yard reception. Jeff Horton's 14-yard run pushed the Crusaders to the Dayton 16-yard line to set up Giancola's touchdown catch from Doerffler in the left side of the end zone.

Giancola now has 230 career points, trailing all-time leader Joe Pahr (234), who has held the all-time scoring record for 53 years (1949-51). Giancola had game-highs of four receptions for 93 yards.

The Flyers added a touchdown - a 2-yard run by Brandon Godsey with 3:08 left in the fourth quarter - for the final score.

Dayton finished with 333 yards on 65 carries, while Valpo rushed for 47 on 29 attempts. The Crusaders had 125 passing yards and limited Dayton to 31. Overall, Dayton amassed 364 total yards to 172 for Valpo.

Dayton's Steve Verhoff led all rushers with 111 yards on 24 carries, while Matt Marshall added 62 on seven attempts. Warner rushed for 47 on 10 carries. Horton topped Valpo with 38 rushing yards on 10 carries.

Doerffler completed nine of 23 passes for 125 yards with two interceptions. Dayton's Brandon Staley completed three of nine for 23 yards with one interception.

Defensively, Brad Smeja led Valpo with 11 tackles. Travis Davis made four tackles, including two for losses, and recovered a fumble. Elliott Powell made an interception.

Dayton was led by Chris Dearth with six tackles, including a sack, and two fumble recoveries.

Valpo travels to play at San Diego next Saturday (Oct. 16) at 3:30 p.m. CT (1:30 p.m. PT).
