Valparaiso University’s football team will wrap up training camp on Saturday with the Brown-Gold intrasquad scrimmage at Brown Field beginning at 2 p.m.

“This will be a dress rehearsal of sorts,” head coach Dale Carlson stated following media day on Thursday.  “The team will put on the game uniforms, there will be officials, and we will put the team through various situations that they may see during game day throughout the 2011 season.”

Fans are invited to watch the scrimmage free of charge on Saturday afternoon for their first glimpse of the Crusader squad.

“We are young, but we are more athletic,” Carlson added.  “This is a double-edged sword in that we have more play makers.  However, youth can lead to mistakes.  I have challenged our team to play like upperclassmen and they need to understand the expectations.  I am looking forward to seeing how our team reacts to the end of camp ends and we begin actual game preparation for Franklin College.”

Valparaiso opens the 2011 regular season on Communiversity, Saturday, Sept. 2 against Franklin with kickoff set for 7 p.m. at Brown Field.
