Monday, November 17, 2003
Valpo's David Macchi was selected as the Pioneer Football League Offensive Player of the Week following the Crusaders' 44-26 win over Aurora. The honor marks the third time this season that Macchi has earned PFL Offensive Player of the Week.

A senior from San Jose, Calif./Willow Glen, Macchi threw for a school record-tying five touchdowns and 344 yards, while breaking four school records. He completed 24 of 36 passes to eight different receivers, including four touchdown aerials to Rob Giancola.

Macchi became Valpo's all-time passing yards leader (6,729), surpassing Scott Lange (6,674 from 1982-85). He also broke the school mark for career touchdown passes (55), vaulting past Lange's mark of 51. In addition, Macchi eclipsed his own single-season school records - established in 2002 - for passing yardage with 3,403 (old record, 3,326) and total yards with 3,631 (old record, 3,549).

Macchi and his Valpo teammates host Morehead State Saturday at noon (CST) in the Pioneer Football League Championship Game.
