Three Crusaders Named to PFL Academic All-PFL Teams

Valparaiso University quarterback Ryan Doerffler (Fort Wayne, Ind./Concordia H.S.) was named to the Pioneer Football League's All-Academic First Team and teammates Matt Hoffmann (Milwaukee, Wis./Marquette University H.S.) and Andrew McCawley (Omaha, Neb./Creighton Prep H.S.) earned Second Team honors the league announced on Thursday.

Doerffler, a sophomore finance and accounting major with a 3.71 grade point average, threw for 1,408 yards and nine touchdowns this season in ten games. He completed nearly 53% of his attempts.

Hoffmann, a senior member of the offensive line, has a 3.43 GPA in mechanical engineering. He started every game at right tackle for the Brown and Gold, helping pave the way for a school record rushing effort from Crusader backs.

McCawley, a sophomore kicker with a 3.14 GPA in meteorology, made all 20 of his extra point attempts for the Crusaders. He finished his career with a school record 83 PATs and went 9-of-13 on field goal attempts this season.

The Academic All-PFL Teams are voted upon by the league's sport information directors. To qualify for consideration, players must be a starter or key reserve and have a minimum 3.0 GPA and sophomore status.
