Valpo Football Hires Silveus and Bailey as New Assistants

Friday, March 09, 2012

Valparaiso University head football coach Dale Carlson has announced the hiring of Tyson Silveus and Alex Bailey as new assistant coaches for the 2012 season.

Silveus will serve as the Crusaders’ special teams coordinator and secondary coach while Bailey will be the team’s wide receivers coach.

Silveus arrives at Valpo from Northwood University where he spent time both as the offensive and defensive coordinator during his five seasons.  While working with the offense for three seasons, he was the team’s running backs coach.  He also worked with the linebackers on the defensive side of the football during his first two years at Northwood.

He also has previous collegiate coaching experience working at Gettysburg College for two years, spent one season at Wingate University, and three years at Manchester College.

Silveus was a member of Valparaiso’s football program in 1992 but saw his career cut short due to injury.  He transferred to Purdue University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in physical education in 1996.  He obtained his master’s degree in 2001 in secondary school administration in 2001.

“I have known Tyson Silveus since my days at Tri-State University when Tyson was coaching at Angola High School,” Carlson stated.  “I knew I would attempt to hire Coach Silveus at some point.  I am excited he has chosen to join our staff.  He brings great experience with many recruiting contacts to our program.”

Bailey comes to Valpo from the University of Dayton where he was the Flyers’ wide receivers coach last season and gained experience coaching in the Pioneer Football League.  He spent three seasons at Defiance College prior to moving on to Dayton.

A 2007 graduate from Youngstown State University with a degree in exercise science, he played wide receiver for the Penguins for three seasons.  He earned his master’s degree from Defiance in 2009 education/sport science.

“I am excited to have Alex Bailey join our staff,” Carlson added.  Coach Bailey knows first-hand what it takes to build a championship team in the PFL having helped coach Dayton to the 2010 PFL Championship.”

Silveus and Bailey replace Kyle Conner and Marcus Knight on Carlson’s staff, both of whom took other coaching positions.
