Dawson Named PFL Offensive Player of the Week for Second Time This Season
Aaron Dawson garnered his second PFL Offensive Player of the Week award this season on Sunday.

Valparaiso University football fifth-year senior Aaron Dawson (Westbury, N.Y. / W.T. Clarke / Milford Prep [Central Connecticut]) received recognition from the Pioneer Football League on Sunday following another standout performance in Saturday’s 45-24 victory at Marist’s Tenney Stadium in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

Dawson, who was named PFL Offensive Player of the Week after the big day in his home state, accumulated 199 rushing yards on 27 carries and totaled three touchdowns (two rushing, one receiving) in the rout of the Red Foxes. In the process, he became the fourth player in program history to surpass 1,000 rushing yards in a single season.

By the end of the day, Dawson lifted his season total to 1,154, surpassing Robert Washington’s number from last season for second on the program’s single-season rushing list. Jeff Horton (1,358, 2005) holds the program record. Saturday represented Dawson’s second-highest rushing output of the season and marked the fifth time this year that he has totaled 100 yards or more.

Dawson’s first rushing score of the day came from a yard out, while his second occurred on a 62-yard carry. Those were sandwiched around his receiving TD, which occurred on a 23-yard pass from Michael Appel Jr.

Dawson, now a two-time PFL Offensive Player of the Week, helped put the Beacons (5-5, 4-3 PFL) in position to clinch a winning season with a victory over Drake on Saturday at Brown Field.
