Chad Warner joined the Valparaiso University men’s basketball coaching staff in April of 2016. He will serve as special assistant to the head coach and is also the recruiting coordinator for the Crusaders.
Warner comes to Valpo after most recently spending eight successful seasons as head coach of Shorter University, leading the Hawks to 156 victories in his tenure at the helm of the program. The winningest coach in program history, he was named NABC National Coach of the Year in 2011-12 after leading Shorter to 34 wins, the no. 1 ranking nationally and a berth in the NAIA Fab Four.
Warner guided the Hawks in their transition from NAIA to NCAA Division II in 2012-13, winning 21 games in their first season as a Division II member and capturing the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) national title. He also earned Georgia Basketball Coaches Association (GABCA) Division II Coach of the Year accolades that season.
Prior to arriving at Shorter for the 2007-08 season, Warner spent two seasons in two separate stints (2006-07; 2003-04) as an assistant coach at Division III Hampden-Sydney College, helping lead the Tigers to a pair of conference championships. He also spent two seasons as an assistant coach at William & Mary (2004-06) and got his start in collegiate coaching as a graduate assistant during the 2002-03 season at the University of Georgia under legendary head coach Jim Harrick.
A 1998 graduate of the University of Georgia, Warner earned a walk-on spot on the Bulldogs’ roster as a freshman under head coach Hugh Durham. Following his graduation, he spent four years as associate head coach at the Darlington School before joining the collegiate coaching ranks. Warner and his wife, Karin, have three children: Aly, Caroline and Jack.
