Valparaiso University men’s basketball head coach Homer Drew announced today that De’Andre Haskins, a 6’4”, 190 lb. guard out of La Lumiere School in LaPorte, Ind., has agreed to join the Crusader program as a freshman for the 2008-09 season.

“We are excited that De’Andre will be attending Valparaiso,” said Drew.  “He will be one of our most athletic players as a freshman.  De’Andre is versatile, as he’s able to play several different positions.  He’s also very quick and possesses a strong determination to work hard to improve his game.  We are very happy to have him as part of our Valpo family.”

Haskins, a native of Long Beach, Calif., averaged 27.5 points per game as a senior for La Lumiere after putting up 31 points per game as a junior.  Haskins becomes the fifth newcomer on the 2008-09 Crusader squad, joining Iowa State transfer Cory Johnson along with fellow freshmen Erik Buggs, Logan Jones, and Cameron Witt.
