Valparaiso men’s basketball head coach Homer Drew will be speaking as the Special Guest at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County 10th Annual Steak & Burger Dinner at the Porter County Expo Center on Thursday, October 15.

The Steak & Burger Dinner is an annual fundraising event for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County, designed to give club members and community members the opportunity to interact together, while enjoying a fun dinner.  The dinner is unique because club members, who are the guests of honor, eat steaks while everyone else eats burgers.  The dinner also serves as a fundraiser for the clubs, to help continue programs that they offer in support of their mission to inspire and enable the youth of the communities to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens.

“The dinner really serves as a time for the community and the boys and girls to come together,” said Pam Edlund-Waters of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County.  “It helps give a better understanding to the community members of why these clubs are important to the youth in our communities.”

The Boys & Girls Clubs of America are currently in a midst of a campaign encouraging their youths to ‘Be Great’, and Drew, who will be attending the event along with team captains Cory Johnson, Howard Little and Brandon McPherson, certainly fits the bill.  Not only has Drew been ‘Great’ on the hardwood, leading his teams to over 600 victories and eight postseason appearances, but he has also been ‘Great’ in developing young men who share their gifts with their communities, as over 70 of his players have gone into the teaching and coaching professions.

The event will begin with a silent auction starting at 5:15 p.m., while the main program will get underway at 6 p.m.  For more information on the event or purchasing tickets, contact Edlund-Waters at 219-464-7282 x235.
