For the second straight year, the Valparaiso men’s basketball team participated in the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) Northwest Indiana Walk to Cure Diabetes. This year’s walk was held on Sunday, Sept. 26 at Hidden Lake Park in Merrillville.
The JDRF is the leading charitable funder and advocate of type 1 diabetes (formerly known as juvenile diabetes) research worldwide. Over 200 Walks to Cure Diabetes, which serve as the organization’s largest fundraising event, are held nationwide every year, including five in the state of Indiana.
The Crusaders first participated in the walk in 2009, when head coach Homer Drew served as walk chairman. This year, the Crusaders joined in the walk and also helped distribute water bottles at the walk's conclusion. For more information on how to donate you can contact the JDRF office at 574-273-1810.
