Valparaiso junior guard Brandon Wood (Kokomo, Ind./Kokomo [Highland C.C./Southern Illinois]) earned a spot on the First Team All-Horizon League squad, as the league office unveiled its postseason awards today.

Wood finished the regular season fourth in the league in scoring, leading the Crusaders with 16.2 ppg.  He has scored 471 points this year, giving him 1,036 career points, a new Valpo record through a player’s first two seasons.  Wood has scored in double figures 22 times on the season, including 20 or more points on nine occasions.

But the junior has done more than just score for the Crusaders this season.  Wood averages 4.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.8 steals per game as well, leading Valpo in the latter two categories.  The junior ranks second in the league in thefts and seventh in assists, and is one of just two players in the Horizon League to sit among the top-seven in scoring, assists and steals.  In addition, Wood’s 50 steals this year already has him in a tie for ninth on the Crusader single-season charts.

Wood was joined on the First Team All-League by Cleveland State’s Norris Cole (Player of the Year), Butler’s Matt Howard, Wright State’s Vaughn Duggins and Milwaukee’s Anthony Hill.
