Monday, January 22, 2007
Samuel Haanpaa (Kerava, Finland/Cornerstone [Texas] Christian) was named the Mid-Continent Conference men's basketball co-player of the week for his outstanding performance last week against Western Illinois, the league announced today.

The freshman, who shared the honors with Oral Roberts' Caleb Green, set a career high and matched Valpo's season high with 24 points in Thursday's 78-60 win. Haanpaa hit five 3-pointers for the third consecutive game, needing just six attempts to do so. He connected on seven total field goals, setting a career high in that category, and hit 5-of-6 free throw attempts. Haanpaa also pulled down seven rebounds and dished out four assists in the win over the Leathernecks.

Over his last three games, Haanpaa is averaging 19.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per game while shooting at a 78.9% clip from behind the arc. He ranks among the Mid-Con's best in conference games in scoring (14.6 ppg, 6th), rebounding (7.0 rpg, 3rd), free throw percentage (.826, 7th), 3-point FGs (3.2/game, 2nd) and 3-point percentage (.571, 1st).
