Valpo to Host Green Bay in First Round of Horizon League Championship

Valparaiso (19-12, 9-9 Horizon) has earned the sixth seed for the Horizon League Championship and will face seventh-seeded Green Bay (15-14, 9-9 Horizon) in the first round on Tuesday, March 4 at the Athletics-Recreation Center at 7 p.m. CST.  Tickets are available online now at www.valpo.edu/athletics, and can be ordered by phone at 219-464-5233 or in person at the Athletics Ticket Office inside the front entrance of the ARC beginning at 10 a.m. Monday morning.

The Crusaders, who finished tied for fourth in the league standings, and Phoenix split during the regular season, with each team earning a win on their respective home court.  Valpo won the January 12 matchup at the ARC, 82-73, behind 24 points from Samuel Haanpää (Kerava, Finland/Cornerstone [Texas] Christian).  The Phoenix won the rematch in Green Bay on February 7, 76-71 in overtime.

The winner of the Valpo-Green Bay contest will face the winner of third-seeded Wright State and tenth-seeded Detroit on Friday, March 7 at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Ind. at 5 p.m CST.  The winner of that game meets second-seeded Cleveland State on Saturday, March 8 in Indianapolis at 3:30 p.m. CST on ESPNU.  The championship game will be televised from the site of the highest remaining seed on Tuesday, March 11 at 8 p.m. CST on ESPN.

All tickets in the ARC are available for public sale.  Chairback seats are available for $15 and reserved bleacher seats are $12.  It is also a Be Bold, Wear Gold family pack night, as a group of four tickets in the mezzanine will cost just $10.  All Horizon League students receive free entry with valid student ID, and Valparaiso faculty and staff receive free entry with their Valpo ID.
