Virginia Tech Transfer to Join Crusader Program
Wednesday, January 12, 2011
Valparaiso head coach Homer Drew announced today that Ben Boggs, a 6’4”, 200 lb. guard who previously played at Virginia Tech, has enrolled at Valparaiso and will be joining the Crusader men’s basketball program.
“We are very excited to have Ben as part of the Valpo basketball program,” said Drew. “He is a very aggressive player who really reminds us of former player Jake Diebler on the court. Ben has a passion and a love for the game of basketball, and we look forward to working with him.”
Boggs appeared in 25 games off the bench as a freshman at Virginia Tech during the 2009-2010 season and saw action in four games this year before making the decision to transfer. A native of Roanoke, Va., Boggs was ranked as high as the No. 26 shooting guard nationally by ESPN out of high school. A First Team All-State, All-Region and All-District selection as a sophomore and a junior at Hidden Valley H.S., Boggs was also named Metro Player of the Year and Roanoke Times Timesland Player of the Year in 2008 as a junior before suffering a season-ending injury early in his senior campaign.
"I'm very excited to be coming to Valparaiso University," said Boggs. "When I came up on my visit, I fell in love with the campus, the coaching staff and the players. It felt like a great fit for myself, both on the court with the team's style of play and off the court as well, and I'm excited for the opportunity."
