Valparaiso Accepts Bid to CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament

For the fourth consecutive season and the 13th time in the last 19 years, the Valparaiso men's basketball program will be playing in the postseason, as the Crusaders announced this afternoon they had accepted a bid to the 2014 CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament. Valpo will be hosting a first-round game at the ARC either Tuesday, March 18 or Wednesday, March 19.

“We're very excited to be able to play in the CIT this year,” said Crusader head coach Bryce Drew. “Only 42% of D-I teams get selected to play in the postseason, so its a great honor for our guys to be selected. I'm looking forward to the practice time with our team as we continue to develop our younger players.”

This year's Crusader team enters the CIT with an 18-15 record overall this season, including a 9-7 mark in Horizon League play – Valpo's fifth straight season over .500 in one of the nation's top-12 leagues. The Crusaders are led by First Team All-Horizon League selection Lavonte Dority (Chicago, Ill./Foreman [USF]), who averages 16.0 ppg and shoots 43.2% from the 3-point line, while All-Freshman Team choice Alec Peters (Washington, Ill./Washington) paced Valpo with 47 points in its two HL Championship games.

This marks Valpo's second appearance in the CIT, as the Crusaders previously earned a tournament berth in 2011, falling to Iona in their first-round matchup. Details regarding Valpo's first-round opponent, game date/time and ticket information will be forthcoming in the coming days on ValpoAthletics.com, on Facebook [Valpo Athletics and Valpo Men's Basketball] and on Twitter (@ValpoAthletics, @ValpoBasketball).
