Pair of Crusaders Earn Weekly Accolades

Following a 2-0 weekend that put Valparaiso atop the Horizon League standings, a pair of Crusaders have earned weekly honors.  Freshman Tevonn Walker (Montreal, Quebec/Vanier College) was named Freshman of the Week by the Horizon League – his second honor from the league office this season – and earned Lou Henson Award national Player of the Week accolades, while junior Darien Walker (Chicago, Ill./Simeon [John A. Logan/Arizona Western]) was tabbed the league’s Player of the Week by College Sports Madness.

Tevonn Walker started the week with a game-high 20-point effort in the Crusaders’ nationally-televised win over Green Bay Friday evening, going 7-of-12 from the floor and adding five rebounds as well.  He followed on Sunday with 12 points in the win at Milwaukee, including a highlight-reel dunk over the Panthers’ 6’10” J.J. Panoske that earned a spot on the SportsCenter Top 10.  Walker also grabbed six rebounds and registered a game-high four steals in the win over the Panthers.  The freshman previously picked up Freshman of the Week honors from the league office on Feb. 9.

Darien Walker led the way in the Crusaders’ victory against Milwaukee on Sunday, enjoying one of his most efficient games of the season.  Walker went 6-of-9 from the field and hit three of his four 3-point attempts to finish with a game-high 18 points in the win over the Panthers.  He grabbed four rebounds as well on Sunday, while on Friday night against Green Bay, Walker chipped in five points and three rebounds in the victory.

Valparaiso returns to action Saturday night in its regular season home finale at the ARC against Wright State at 7:05 p.m.  It will be Senior Night, while the Valpo Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2015 will be honored at halftime as well.  In addition, the first 1,000 fans through the doors will receive Valpo-branded drawstring backpacks.
