Crusader Men Fifth at Indiana Intercollegiates

The Valparaiso University men's cross country team finished in fifth place among division one teams in the Indiana Intercollegiate Championships on a rainy, sloppy course in Bloomington, Ind. on Friday.

Valpo finished fifth with 143 points, while Indiana won the meet with 21 points and Purdue was second with 46. Conference foe IUPUI finished sixth.

Matt Blume (Logansport, Ind./Pioneer H.S.) led the Brown and Gold with a 22nd place finish overall with a time of 26:49, while Dennis Kabara (Chuka, Kenya/Mero H.S.) and Doug Brown (Lima, Ohio/Allen East H.S.) followed closely. Kabara was 25th with a time of 27:01, while Brown was 27th finishing in 27:08.

Adam Piaskowy (Crete, Ill./Crete Monee H.S.) was fourth for Valpo and 47th overall (28:12), while David Wheeler (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East H.S.) rounded out the scorers with a 54th place finish in a time of 28:35.

Valpo will take this weekend off before splitting the squad the following week. On Oct. 4, the top runners will head to the Notre Dame Invitational, while the rest of the team will travel to the Loyola Lakefront Invitational on Oct. 5.
