Crusaders Wrap Up Season at Great Lakes Regional

Valparaiso’s men’s cross country team concluded its 2007 campaign Saturday morning in Bloomington, Ind., competing at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional.

The Crusaders finished in 27th place out of 30 competing teams, tallying 798 points.  Wisconsin and Michigan finished tied for the top spot with 68 points apiece, while Notre Dame’s Patrick Smyth earned individual top honors.

Chris Honig (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South [Indiana]) paced the Crusaders at the regional meet for the second consecutive season, coming in 131st place with a time of 33:58.00.  He was followed by Leandro Schultz (Valley View, Ohio/Brecksville-Broadview Heights), who placed 154th, completing the 10K course in 34:42.48.

Jim Turchyn (Batesville, Ind./Batesville) was the next Valpo runner to cross the finish line, coming home in 35:01.88, good for 167th place.  Jordan Stanfill (Goshen, Ind./Goshen) finished 173rd, completing the course in 35:18.25, while David Carter (Arlington Heights, Ill./John Hersey) rounded out the Crusaders’ top-five with a time of 35:28.13, good for 178th place.
