Tuesday, October 16, 2007

Chris Honig (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South [Indiana]) was named the Horizon League men’s cross country Athlete of the Week today after his top-10 finish last weekend at the Evansville Invitational.

The junior completed the eight-kilometer course in 25:38.49, good for an eighth-place finish and sixth-best among attached collegiate runners.  Honig’s finish helped lead the Crusaders to a third-place team finish.  It was the fourth time that Honig has placed in the top-10 running for Valpo, and marked the second-fastest 8K of his career.

Honig and the rest of the Crusaders used the Evansville Invitational as their final tune-up for the Horizon League Championships, to be held at Sunset Hills Farm Park in Valparaiso on Saturday, Oct. 27.  The women’s race, which will cover five kilometers, will start at 11 a.m., while the men’s race, over a distance of eight kilometers, will begin at noon.
