Valpo Finishes Sixth at Mid-Con Championships

Adriano Schultz (Brecksville, Ohio/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) paced the Crusaders to a sixth place finish Saturday morning in the Mid-Continent Conference Cross Country Championships at Sunset Hills Farm in Valparaiso.

Schultz completed the 8K course in 27:31.1, good for 33rd place. Freshman Jim Turchyn (Batesville, Ind./Batesville) was next, placing 35th in 27:40.3 followed immediately by fellow freshman Jordan Stanfill (Goshen, Ind./Goshen), who finished in 27:44.5, and senior David Wheeler (Saint Charles, Ill./East), who completed the course in 27:46.2.

Mike Brouch (Aurora, Ill./Marmion Academy) was the fifth Crusader finisher, in 27:50.0, followed by a pair of freshman, Rich Krupar (Elyria, Ohio/Midview) and Leandro Schultz (Brecksville, Ohio/Brecksville-Broadview Heights). Ben Radke (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) and Josh Parker (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park) rounded out the Crusader contingency in 47th and 48th place respectively.

Adam Frezza of Oakland University won the meet in 24:51.3 and helped lead the Golden Grizzlies to their first Mid-Con title since 2002. Frezza was named Male Athlete of the Year, his coach Paul Rice was named Coach of the Year, and Southern Utah's Dallas Eborn earned Newcomer of the Year honors.
