Valparaiso shot 311 as a team on Tuesday in the final round of the TSU Big Blue Intercollegiate to finish with a 36-hole total of 620, and finished in a tie for ninth place at Kings Creek Golf Course in Spring Hill, Tenn.
The Crusaders finished in a tie with Trevecca Nazarene, 15 shots ahead of 11th place Savannah State. Valpo was seven strokes behind eighth place Lipscomb. Murray State won the team title at 595, five shots ahead of Morehead State.
Kyle Henning (Brookfield, Wis./East H.S.) and Josh Kalita (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton H.S.) led the way for the Brown and Gold, both finishing in a tie for 18th individually with 151 totals. Henning shot Valpo’s low round of the tournament at 74 on Tuesday over the 6,807-yard, par-70 layout. Kalita carded a 75 in round two, and finished with his lowest 36-hole tournament score of the season.
Brad Winters (Elgin, Ill./Saint Edward H.S.) added a 78 for Valpo, bettering his first round score by two shots, to finish at 158 while Thomas Wettstein (Neenah, Wis./Neenah H.S.) posted an 84 to finish at 160. Andy Webb (Bedford, Ind./North Lawrence H.S.) fired a final round 87 to finish at 167 for the tournament.
Valparaiso will return to the links on Saturday and Sunday for the UK Bluegrass Invitational in Lexington, Ky. Saturday’s action will begin at 7:30 a.m. CDT with a shotgun start, as the Crusaders will play the first 36 holes of the 54-hole event.
