Crusaders in fifth after second round of Mussatto Invitational
Kyle Henning is tied for second individually after two rounds at the Beu Mussatto Invitational.

Junior Kyle Henning (Brookfield, Wis./East) posted a 1-over par round of 73 to lead the Valparaiso men’s golf team in the second round of the Beu Mussatto Invitational at Henry Mussatto GC on Friday afternoon in Macomb, Ill.

The Crusaders stand in fifth place after 36 holes with a team total of 590. Valparaiso trails leader South Dakota State by just five shots headed into Saturday’s final round.

Henning is in a tie for second place with an even-par total 144 headed into the final round. He trails IUPUI’s Austin Winings by one shot for medalist honors.

Henning posted back-to-back birdies on the fifth and sixth holes. He posted a three on the par-four fifth and followed it up with a four at the par-five sixth. Henning has recorded seven birdies through two rounds, which is tied for second-most at the tournament.

Junior Thomas Wettstein (Neenah, Wis./Xavier) shot an even-par 72 in the second round.

Sophomore Eric Winters (Elgin, Ill./Saint Edward) posted a score of 75 in the second round.

Senior Austin Gaugert (Lake Geneva, Wis./Badger) and fifth-year senior Brad Winters (Elgin, Ill./Saint Edward [Dayton]), shot matching rounds of 76 in the second round. They are each tied for 20th place after two rounds.

Play at the Mussatto Invitational concludes on Saturday with the final round from Henry Mussatto GC.
