Valparaiso’s men’s golf team sits in 14th place through two rounds of the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational hosted by Ball State, which was played at Delaware Country Club in Muncie, Ind. on Monday.
The Crusaders totaled 627 (313-314) for the first two rounds of the 54-hole event played on the 6,438-yard, par-70 layout. Valpo enters Tuesday’s final round two strokes behind 13th place IUPUI and 13 shots ahead of Vincennes. Bowling Green leads the event at four-under par 556.
Mike Hesselman (Janesville, Wis./Edgerton H.S.) led the way in both rounds for the Crusaders, carding 147 (74-73) to stand in a tie for 22nd place overall. Austin Gaugert (Lake Geneva, Wis./Badger H.S.) added a 77 and 76 for a 153 total.
Valparaiso will return to Delaware Country Club for the final round on Tuesday morning with a shotgun start beginning at 7:30 a.m.
