A record-setting rookie season for freshman men’s golfer Caleb VanArragon (Blaine, Minn./Blaine) culminated Tuesday with one of the conference’s highest honors, as VanArragon was named the 2020 MVC Newcomer of the Year. VanArragon also represented Valpo as one of five golfers on the MVC All-Conference Team.

Caleb VanArragon (Blaine, Minn. / Blaine) added another Top-10 finish to his season resume this week at the Orlando Invitational hosted by George Mason at Mission Inn in Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla. The freshman led the way for the Valparaiso University men’s golf team, which finished with a team score 942 over 54 holes for the tournament.

The Valparaiso University men’s golf team utilized an impressive second-round performance to climb from tied for 10th to tied for first in the 19-team Invitation at Savannah Harbor at The Club at Savannah Harbor in Savannah Ga. on Saturday. After taking medalist honors for the first time in his collegiate career, Valparaiso University men’s golf sophomore Garrett Willis (Fort Wayne, Ind. / Homestead) was named a Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week on Wednesday. He shared the weekly men’s golf honor with Illinois State’s David Perkins, who finished third with a 202 (-11) at the Bearcat Invitational.

Sophomore Garrett Willis (Fort Wayne, Ind. / Homestead) became the first Valparaiso University men’s golfer to win medalist honors since 2017 on Tuesday, headlining a banner day for the program at the Zach Johnson Invitational, which was hosted by Drake at Glen Oaks Country Club in West Des Moines, Iowa. A razor-tight finish saw the Valparaiso University men’s golf team tie for the runner-up position with North Dakota State, just five strokes behind team champion Wright State at the 15-team Crusader Collegiate, which concluded on Tuesday afternoon at Sand Creek Country Club in Chesterton. Valpo was neck-and-neck for the tournament lead throughout the round as the team title came down to the final hole of the day.
