VanArragon Continues to Accumulate MVC Weekly Awards

A stellar fall season produced one final accolade on Thursday as Valparaiso University junior Caleb VanArragon (Blaine, Minn. / Blaine) was once again named the Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week.

VanArragon earned MVC Golfer of the Week recognition for the third straight week and the fourth time this fall. He now owns nine career MVC Golfer of the Week awards, tied for the sixth most in the history of the conference. He needs one more to become just the sixth player in conference history to garner 10 or more weekly honors.

VanArragon closed out the fall season with an individual runner-up finish in a 66-player field at the TVA Community Credit Union Invitational, hosted by North Alabama at the par-72, 7133-yard Turtle Point Yacht & Country Club in Killen, Ala. The Valpo junior posted a round-by-round line of 69-70-73 to finish the event at 212 (-4) and solidify his fifth straight top-5 finish. He was the individual runner-up or medalist in four of his six tournaments this fall, carding 215 or better in each of his last three outings.

This marked the eighth time in VanArragon’s collegiate career that he has finished as the individual medalist or runner-up, including the seventh time in the calendar year of 2021. This week, he again cracked the program record book in 54-hole tournament score in relation to par. By finishing the event at four strokes under, he tied for the eighth-best 54-hole score in relation to par in program history. This marked the fifth time in his career that he finished a 54-hole tournament four under or better. His efforts helped the team garner its 10th straight top-5 finish dating back to last season as the Beacons were the runners-up in an 11-team field.

Valpo will tee off the spring season on Sunday, Feb. 13 in Palm City, Fla. as the team will compete in the Advance Golf Partners Collegiate, the first of seven tournaments during the spring semester.
